Connectivity for charging infrastructure

Every charge point has to bill, meter and report in real time. We supply the M2M SIM cards behind charging networks such as Blulinc, with multi-operator coverage so a charger in an underground car park keeps working.

THE CHALLENGE

A charger without a connection is a charger without revenue

Charging infrastructure often sits exactly where a single network underperforms: underground car parks, industrial estates, motorway stops.

Coverage varies per site

One operator rarely covers a national roll-out with hundreds of locations.

Payments cannot fail

OCPP sessions, authorisations and roaming to other networks need a stable, low-latency link.

Usage creeps up

Firmware updates and logging quietly increase data usage per card.

Managing hundreds of cards

Activating, blocking and replacing card by card costs time as the fleet grows.

OUR APPROACH

From first charge point to national roll-out

We deliver the same setup that runs behind the Blulinc charging network.

01

Network choice per zone

We determine which network performs best per region and supply cards on it.

02

Data pool instead of separate bundles

All charge points share one pool, so a busy site is offset by a quiet one.

03

Usage caps and alerts

A cap per card, with a notification before the cap is reached.

04

Roll-out in batches

Cards delivered pre-activated, ready to slot into the charger.

Which plan fits this solution?

Charge points continuously send session data, OCPP messages and firmware updates. IoT Core with 1 GB per SIM covers a classic AC charge point, IoT Max suits fast chargers with a camera or display. From roughly 50 charge points a data pool is cheaper than individual cards.

Options with this setup

  • Private APN with VPN to your backend, without public IP addresses
  • Multi-operator card for charge points in difficult locations
  • Usage cap per card so a faulty charge point never causes an invoice surprise

All prices are monthly. SIM cards and eSIM profiles, activation and a private APN are billed separately.

Frequently asked questions about charge point connectivity

Does this work with OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1?

Yes. Our cards provide plain IP connectivity, so any OCPP version or backend works. We review together whether a private APN is needed.

What if a site has poor coverage?

We test the site and put the card on the strongest network there. If in doubt we supply a test card before installation.

How much data does a charger use per month?

Typically between 20 MB and 150 MB, depending on logging and firmware updates. With a data pool you do not have to estimate per card.

Can we block or replace cards ourselves?

You notify our support and we handle activation, blocking or replacement, usually the same working day.
